Kia Georgia Goes Green with Solar Panel Project
After a massive hailstorm damaged over 13,000 vehicles at the Kia Georgia plant in 2023, the company knew it needed a better solution. The answer? A cutting-edge solar canopy system from VPS that protects vehicles from severe weather and powers the plant with clean energy.
The system will include 17,000 solar panels, generating over 10 megawatts of electricity—enough to supply up to 30% of the plant’s annual energy needs. It’s part of Kia’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions by 97% by 2045.
Located in West Point, Kia Georgia builds top models like the Telluride, Sorento, Sportage, EV9, and EV6. The solar project is about 40% complete and is set to finish by the end of 2025.
This initiative reflects Kia’s broader push for sustainability and innovation, aligning with Hyundai Motor Group’s multi-billion-dollar investment in EV and battery production across Georgia.
